NIME - Nordic Institute for Missiological and Ecumenical Research - is a network of researchers from religious studies and theology with interest in subjects relating to Christian mission and ecumenism. NIME connects more than 70 scholars from 23 universities and university colleges in the fields of mission and ecumenism throughout Northern Europe. The network organises conferences, workshops, and doctoral courses as well as coordinates information about events of interest for the scholarly community.

The network is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Kajsa Ahlstrand, Faculty of Theology, Uppsala University, and Assistant Prof. Jonas Adelin Jørgensen, Faculty of Theology, University of Copenhagen. Furthermore, the NIME board which meets annually and arranges study days for NIME also counts Associate Prof. Mika Vähäkangas, Theological Faculty, Helsinki University, and Assistant Prof. Kirstin Norseth, Norweigan School of Theology, Oslo.

The main purposes of NIME are (1) to promote missiology and ecumenism as common fields of research across boundaries of method (history, theology, etc.); (2) to define new challenges for Christian mission and ecumenism emerging inside and outside the North European context; (3) to establish a forum for discussion among researchers and to give scholars opportunity to discuss results with the broader scholarly constituency.

NIME does not receive funding from any private or public source but is an independent research network sponsored by the various member universities and university colleges. NIME does not have individual membership but strongly recommends individuals to become members of our international body, International Association for Mission Studies, IAMS.

Dear NIME list members,

There has been a long silence from NIME. We had long hoped to have our Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Uppsala this May, in connection with the Bengt Sundkler Centenary Conference. However, this has not worked out and I apologize on behalf of the board for this. The NIME board will meet in August with the sole agenda to plan our next AGM.

Invitations:

We have received the following invitation from Prof. Viggo Mortensen, Aarhus:

Dear Colleague

Attached you will find electronically a flyer describing an upcoming conference on Church and Mission in a Multireligious Third Millennium sponsored by the Theological Faculty, University of Aarhus and the Danish Research Council for the Humanities. We are very excited about this conference, one of the very first to celebrate the centennial of the 1910 Edinburgh conference. We want to take our starting point in 1910 but quickly turn to the present and future and analyse the actual and coming challenges confronting the global Christian Church. You will see from the attached program that we have eminent theologians and missiologists to help us discern the way forward.

This is a personal invitation for you to join this important conference. For registration see www.teo.au.dk/churchandmission

We invite you to consider contributing an academic paper (see Call for papers http://www.teo.au.dk/churchandmission/callforpapers

And we ask you to distribute this information in your network so that we will gather an inspirational crowd that together can ponder the challenges confronting

Church and Mission in a Multireligious Third Millennium.

Welcome to Aarhus.
